John Tolson Director, Special Services

John Tolson is Director of Special Services for Outrider, and is responsible for multiple aspects of Outrider's business. He serves as a catch-call resource for new development within the Outrider organization, provides guidance to Outrider's new business development and client services staff and develops strategy and tactical proposals. John is responsible for marketing, technology, and is responsible for the hiring and training of new employees. Heavily integrated in the business, John oversees Outrider's marketing and technology managers and manages some of the organization's Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 clients.
A seasoned professional, John's career includes vast communications experience, spanning more than 12 years in the marketing and public relations professional, including nine years in the interactive industry. He first emerged in the industry as a Communications Specialist for Allsup Inc. After serving at General American Insurance as Marketing Communications Administrator, John worked at StudioPointe Interactive as their Director of Communications and Interactive Project Manager. He later joined Kupper Parker Communications as an Account Supervisor and Fleishman Hillard as Senior Manager. In these roles he worked for clients including Anheuser-Busch, SBC Communications, ConAgra Foods, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, United Way of Greater St. Louis, Sara Lee, Election Systems and Software, and more. In 2005, John caught the attention of Outrider, who brought him on as a Senior Client Service Lead, before joining the management team as a Director in 2006.
John holds a Master of Arts in Speech Communications (Public Relations and Organizational Communications), and Bachelor of Arts in Art (Graphic Design and Photography.)
Away from the office, John has played a distinguished role in the industry and community. For two years he was an adjunct instructor of Web Site Management at Washington University - University College School of Communications and Journalism. He is a former member of the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists (GSLABJ), and served as director, assistant director and public relations instructor for GSLABJ Minority Journalism Workshop
